Post Holiday Monday...

I'm usually quite disinterested in life after a holiday weekend and dread coming to work, but the last four days seem to go by so slowly that I feel more rejuvenated than tired. Instead of a recap, lets just say my friends are awesome, food was delicious, the drinks still flow, men look best in fall/winter, and the upcoming holiday party season is going to be sweet! I'm thankful for a lot of things but it's truly my friends and family that I appreciate most.

Public note-to-self: Lay off the dairy cause my farts are stinky...

Warriors, come out an plaaaaay...

Man, we murdered the Knicks! Making their only appearance at Madison Square Garden this season, the Golden State Warriors trounced the New York Knickerbockers 108-82. Shar, Jac and I were clad in gold accompanied by Jen and R(the sad Knick fan). Shar's "We Believe" shirt was off the chain!

The game started out with boo's from the crowd for both Knicks coach Isiah Thomas and starting point guard Stephon Marbury. Those wouldn't be the last boo's of the night, as Baron Davis and the Warriors ran a clinic on teamwork, coaching and play making. BD dashed and carved his way through the defense for a game high 31 points, followed by Stephen Jackson's 23 points. The Knicks offense posed no threats the whole night and by half time, chants of "Fire Isiah" loomed over the crowd. The game was fun to watch and the beers weren't too expensive at $8.75. The Warriors are now 3-6 and steadily working there way up in the Western Conference. Stringing together 3 straight wins will help boost some confidence leading into Wednesday nights face-off with Kevin Garnett and the Boston Celtics. Could this next game be a preview for this years NBA Finals? I believe, do you?

The Loin looks forward...

The New Museum
I, along with maybe half of New York, will likely descend to the Bowery Saturday, December 1, for the opening of the new New Museum. My part-time job at the Chinatown YMCA allowed me to follow the construction of the massive 7-story building dedicated to contemporary art. Designed by the Japanese firm Sejima+Nishizawa/SANAA, the building looks like white gift boxes stacked off-centered and waiting to be unwrapped. The building stands out like most of the new construction going up around the Lower East Side, but its presence feels less intrusive than the characterless condominiums. The museum is celebrating its 30th Anniversary and inaugurating the new building with an exhibit "Unmonumental." It is described as

"an international survey on all three main gallery floors that opens with sculpture by 30 artists from around the globe, then expands over the course of five months into a dense, teeming environmental experience through the addition of layers of collage, sound, and Internet-based art."

I'm really excited to visit the new museum and starting noon Saturday, the museum will be free of charge for 30 continuous hours. The museum is located on Bowery between Stanton and Rivington.

**Update-If you want to visit the museum any time during the 30 free hours, you will need a ticket for the specific time you arrive. I have 5 tickets for 1pm on Saturday. If you want to reserve tickets for another entrance time, go here.

Todd Almond at Joe's Pub

Todd Almond is a singer-songwriter from New York City(by way of Nebraska) and a good friend of mine. I went to his show last night at Joe's Pub, with DJ. This is my second time seeing him play live and the first time seeing him with a full band. His song-writing skills are exemplary and the way he interacts with his band and the audience are thoroughly entertaining. He brings out the best in his guests, and the first song with Pamela Bob was a tongue-twisting masterpiece. The crowd at Joe's Pub sat enthralled by Mr. Almond and the hour and a half show left everyone wanting more. Todd is one of the most interesting people I have met in NYC and I can't wait to see him perform again. Cheers!

Hey there fellas...it's The Loin!

b-Ling, So You Think You’re Smarter Than The New All-Beef Cruncharito, Only At Taco Bell, Adventures of Sea Beast & His Wily Gang of Cowboys, Jason's Big Gay Blog, OccAzn, The Sting of Ling...Thanks for all of your blog name suggestions. I may have found my title this past weekend at Jessica's wonderful Pre-Thanksgiving Pot Luck and Wii Party. With thanks to Jeff S., Jeff H. and Michael, I roasted a juicy pork loin. "The Loin" was happily concieved at it's unvailing at the party and I'm running with it.

So I'm starting this blog because Eric says I should, and I do everything Eric says (seriously, everything). I think the idea is to let you into the events that shape my social life in the city. I think I have a good grasp of the city and if you want to join me, I'll do the research so you don't have to. Please look forward to infrequent, carefully-crafted posts.
